Fotógrafas Dominicanas nació de una pregunta: ¿dónde están las historias de las mujeres que han construido nuestra fotografía?

Resulta que están en todas partes. En las protestas y en las salas de parto, en los estudios de barrio que llevan cuarenta años abiertos, en los álbumes familiares que alguien armó con un cuidado enorme, en las aulas donde una fotógrafa le enseñó a otra a revelar. La obra existe, es abundante y es buenísima. Lo que hacía falta era juntarla en un solo lugar y ponerle nombre a cada quien.

Eso es lo que hace este proyecto. Reunir esa historia y escribirla, para que la próxima que busque referentes encuentre docenas, y para que cada fotógrafa dominicana se reconozca dentro de una tradición que le pertenece.

Fotógrafas de las 31 provincias y el Distrito Nacional, de los pueblos que casi nunca aparecen en las páginas culturales, y de la diáspora en cualquier lugar del mundo. Fotoperiodismo, retrato, moda, documental, paisaje, estudio, bodas, arte, archivo familiar. Todos los géneros cuentan y todos entran aquí.

Cada perfil incluye su trayectoria, su obra y una conversación sobre cómo llegó a la fotografía. Los puedes leer en [enlace al Substack].

A quién buscamos

Mujeres dominicanas que trabajan o trabajaron con la fotografía: por nacimiento, por ascendencia o por residencia. Profesionales, artistas, fotoperiodistas, estudiantes, aficionadas. Vivas o fallecidas. Si abrió camino antes que nosotras, con más razón queremos saber de ella.

Cómo participar

Si conoces a una fotógrafa que debamos documentar, o si eres fotógrafa y quieres compartir tu trabajo, llena el formulario. Toma dos minutos. Si nos recomiendas a alguien, con su nombre y un enlace es suficiente. Si nos escribes sobre tu propio trabajo, te contactamos antes de publicar cualquier cosa y nada se publica sin tu permiso.

FOTÓGRAFAS DOMINICANAS

Fotógrafas Dominicanas started with a question: where are the stories of the women who built Dominican photography?

They turn out to be everywhere. In the protests and the delivery rooms, in the neighborhood studios that have been open for forty years, in the family albums somebody put together with enormous care, in the classrooms where one photographer taught another how to develop a print. The work exists, there's a lot of it, and it's good. What was missing was a single place to gather it and a name attached to every image.

That's what this project does. Bring that history together and write it down, so the next woman looking for photographers to learn from finds dozens, and so every Dominican photographer can see herself inside a tradition that belongs to her.

Photographers from all 31 provinces and the Distrito Nacional, from the towns that almost never make the culture pages, and from the diaspora anywhere in the world. Photojournalism, portraiture, fashion, documentary, landscape, studio, weddings, fine art, family archives. Every genre counts and every genre belongs here.

Who we're looking for

Dominican women working in photography, or who worked in it before us: by birth, by descent, or by where they live. Professionals, artists, photojournalists, students, amateurs. Living or gone. If she opened the door before we got here, we especially want to know about her.

How to take part

If you know a photographer we should document, or if you're a photographer and want to share your work, fill out the form. It takes two minutes. If you're recommending someone, her name and a link is enough. If you're writing about your own work, we'll reach out before publishing anything, and nothing goes up without your permission.
